In Child Support there are seven categories of case types. The categories are:
- Permanently Assigned
- Temporarily/Conditionally Assigned
- IV-E Foster Care
- Non IV-E Foster Care
- Private
- Interstate PA
- Interstate Non PA
Permanently Assigned
- C – Whenever a C case is used, this means the state is issuing or has issued TANF benefits for the time period indicated, and the custodial person (CP) does not receive child support for that month. Instead, child support payments are retained by the state.
- Z – The case code Z indicates a past assignment, meaning the child support was assigned to the State during the months indicated prior to 09/30/1998. If a CP signed up for TANF prior to 10/01/1998, CP had to agree to temporarily assign any unpaid child support arrears to the State. That meant while the CP was on TANF, any child support the state collected, they kept. The CP “assigned” monthly child support to the state because CP was receiving state support during those months.
- CC – The code CC means a judgment has been taken for a TANF time frame. Money paid toward this judgment case type will retain to the state.
- ZC – The code ZC means the CP assigned judgment payments to the state prior to 10/1998.
- GO – This code stands for Genetic Test Fee. It means the state is collecting or has collected the money for genetic testing which determines paternity.
Temporarily/Conditionally Assigned
- D – Between 10/01/98 through 09/30/09, a CP had to agree to temporarily assign any previously unpaid child support to the state. Cases marked with “D” represent this temporary assignment. After 10/01/09, all D balances were converted to Conditionally Assigned, which means the D balances will always issue to the CP (except for IRS intercepts). If an assignment is D, the CP receives the child support arrears even if they are receiving TANF.
- DC – The code DC means a judgment has been taken for a D case type time frame. Money paid toward this case type will issue to the CP with the exception of IRS tax intercepts.
IV-E Foster Care
- F – This code means that a child is currently in foster care, or was in foster care during the month indicated with an F. IV-E Foster Care cases are federally funded.
- FC– Cases marked with FC means there is a judgment for repayment of a foster care time frame.
Non IV-E Foster Care
- E – The code E represents the case of a child who is in-state, and is or has been in Non-IV-E foster care. Non IV-E Foster Care is funded by the state.
- EC – Cases marked with EC means there is a judgment for repayment of a foster care time frame.
Private
- P – This code means a case is private. In private cases, child support payments are issued to the CP and the state does not retain anything.
- M– The M code represents an in-state medical case. Child support payments issue to the CP and nothing is retained by the state.
- X – The code X means medical assistance is extended after TANF has stopped, but medical benefits have not yet started. Child support payments issue to the CP.
- J – The code J represents a case receiving disability assistance. Child support payments issue to the CP.
- B – The code B represents a case that is receiving aid to the blind. Child support payments issue to the CP.
- PC – The code PC represents a case where a judgment has been taken for a private time frame. Judgment payments issue to the CP.
- MC – The code MC represents a case where a judgment has been taken for a medical assistance time frame. Judgment payments issue to the CP.
- XC – The code XC stands for Extended Medical Judgment. It represents a case where medical assistance is extended after TANF has stopped and a judgment has been taken. Judgment payments issue to the CP.
- JC – The code JC represents a disability case where a judgment has been taken. Judgment payments issue to the CP.
- BC – The code BC represents an aid to blind case where a judgment has been taken. Judgment payments issue to the CP.
Interstate PA
- A – The code A means the child was on public assistance in another state. This means child support payments are owed to that state.
- AC – The code AC means the child was on public assistance in another state, and there was a judgment taken for that time frame. This means judgment payments are owed to that state.
Interstate Non-PA
- N – The code N means the case is coming from another state, but the child was not on public assistance in that state. This means payments will forward to that state to issue to the CP.
- NC – The code NC means the case has a judgment and is coming from another state, but the child was not on public assistance in that state. This means payments will forward to that state to issue to the CP.
