Where to find the FIPS codes database
It is located on the STO P drive. You can find it here: \\s94X01\public\intergovernmental\fips codes database.accdb
or contact OCSS.Contact.CenterCoordinatedPrograms@okdhs.org for a link.
In the database you can search 5 ways:
- By the 7 digit FIPS code
- By the first 2 digits of the FIPS code (state code)
- By any part of the FIPS code
- By City – any part of the city name
- By State – by 2 letter postal code
Each way brings up a similar report, but let’s look at a Search by State to see what it’s like.
If we click the “Search by State” button, a box pops up into which you can type the 2 letter state abbreviation. Below are the results for VT (Vermont).

The list has the cities in alphabetical order.
At the top of the report you’ll find the number of results for the search.
The FIPS codes are underlined. Double click them to get details about the office location.
