FMLA Overview

Legal Authority:

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides a means for employees to balance their work and family responsibilities by taking unpaid leave for certain reasons. It promotes the stability and economic security of families, as well as Oklahoma Human Services’ (OKDHS) key belief that healthy families are the foundation of a healthy society. FMLA provides eligible employees with up to 12 work weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period, and requires group health benefits to be maintained during the leave as if employee continued to work instead of taking leave.

Frequently asked questions should help you understand the FMLA and when it can be used.
