Juvenile Case Initiation Tips

The Consistent Excellence AFS Referrals document provides directions for building juvenile cases. If the children are in Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) custody, additional information will be needed and can be found in eKIDS and KIDS. The following is the information that will be needed when building a new case with the child in OKDHS custody:

  • Check for other possible fathers. On some cases, a possible father may be named to CSS or to Child Welfare and is not named to the other agency. Both systems should always be searched to find all possible fathers.
  • Check for Social Security Numbers (SSN), Department Client Number (DCN), and/or Biological Parent (BP) addresses that may not have been included in the referral or are not on OSIS.
  • Check for additional siblings that may need to be added to the child support case.
  • Check for removal date and from whom the child was removed (mother, father, married couple, divorced couple, etc.). This will be needed when updating the CHU screen and for determining who should be listed as the Custodial Parent (CP).
