Cash medical support is a cash amount in the child support guidelines the court may order the non-custodial parent to pay in lieu of obtaining insurance coverage for the child.
The court will typically order cash medical support when the insurance is unavailable, too expensive, only sporadically available, or if family violence is an issue and there is a concern the order for insurance coverage could possibly disclose the location of the family.
Cash medical support is not dependent upon the family receiving SoonerCare (Medicaid). When the family is on SoonerCare, any cash medical support collected is sent to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA).
