This Spotlight series is focused on presenting the amazing stories of fellow CSS employees. These incredible testimonies exemplify CSS’s HOPE-Centered approach. Through goal setting, the creation and recognition of pathways, and enduring willpower we can achieve inspirational accomplishments, both within CSS and our personal lives. The inspiration you receive from these stories could open your own eyes to new goals you thought were impossible or pathways to achieve the important goals you have already set for yourself!
Today we spotlight Laura Pacenza tells a short part of their story in this video. Here is what they shared:
Laura is a Child Support Specialist IV in the Tahlequah District Office. After recording her video last year, we recently sent her some follow-up questions. Let’s highlight how HOPE was part of her life from what she said in the video first.
In her video, Laura spoke of how, from the beginning, her supervisor trained her and created a work environment that encouraged personal growth. She found a pathway to get involved in the changes required to transition to remote work. She seized the opportunity to increase her knowledge, share and participate in meeting where she could express her thoughts and pass on her knowledge to co-workers. She was instrumental in creating training materials that benefited new employees, as well as those who had been there longer, learn new processes. The supportive environment where Laura worked not only gave her courage to reach for higher goals, but to nurture and encourage others to grow in their knowledge and confidence.
Laura responded to additional questions after her video was made. We used her responses to show how they relate to HOPE.
- We asked: Is there anything you would like to add that is not in the Encouraging Stories Video?
- “The personal friendships and the professional relationships I’ve made have been the most rewarding thing about working at DHS”
- Another question we had was has a co-worker assisted you in a way so that you feel more committed to helping children and families?
- “A coworker once told me they can find joy in thinking our role enables kids to go to summer camps, take musical lessons, and do other activities that require extra cash from the custodial parent.”
- Another question Laura answered was What more would you like us to know about your career with Child Support?
- “I am enjoying my time learning more about management styles and developing my path to best lead the office….”
“…. helping others find and achieve their goals has been more rewarding than I could ever imagine”
“Two of my subordinates now have positions at OUCPM/CPD…”
Laura continues to seek new pathways for herself towards her own goal of becoming the best leader she can. She also seeks out pathways for those around her to help them achieve their goals. This is the social gift of HOPE working exactly as intended.
- Asking specifically about HOPE in her life, Is there anything in your personal or professional life that you are particularly HOPEful about right now?
- “I am going to Barcelona in Oct to visit friends. I started taking ice skating lessons, I’m level 4 now, doing crossovers and spins!”
When people around us experience growth and advancement, it can indeed inspire HOPE. These pathways represent progress and potential, both for individuals and the organization. Whether it’s through promotions, lateral moves, or exploring different roles, each step contributes to a brighter future.
