Customers waiting on international payments often experience delays because it takes time for a paper check from another country to be received at SDU. Once a foreign check does arrive, it cannot be processed like a regular domestic check.
Instead of being immediately applied, foreign checks must go through a multi-step currency conversion process before the funds can be logged into the system. The journey of an international check involves several different departments and steps:
- State Disbursement Unit (SDU) receives foreign currency checks
- SDU sends checks to the Center for Finance & Budget (CFB)
- CFB send checks to the Oklahoma State Treasurer (OST) to convert to US Dollars
- OST notifies CFB of the check amount
- CFB logs the payment to the case
