The Child Support Services learning management system (LMS) is our website that organizes and provides employee training. This article presents tips on the simplest way to find training, enroll in, sign up for a course, and successfully complete a typical course.
The “Find Courses” Search Tool
Once you’ve accessed the address of the DHS Learning website and your password is confirmed, you can log into the LMS. The “Dashboard” (or home page) has a lot to look at, and there is more than one way to accomplish most things here.
To find a course, click Find Learning from the top ribbon.
Alternatively, you can enter the course name into the Search Courses box and press Enter.
Using the Find Learning feature, all the DHS courses are listed. Narrow this list down by clicking on the small arrow next to All in the Category menu. The drop-down menu lists the OHS divisions that have courses on the LMS. Select Child Support to display all Child Support courses.
Now that only child support courses are showing you can enter the name of the course you are looking for.
Courses with similar names will appear. In our example, there are three Enforcement Basics courses – Enforcement Basics -Part 1; Enforcement Basics – Part 2; and Enforcement Basics – Part 3. We want to enroll and sign up for Enforcement Basics – Part 2. Click on the course and a note appears saying you can enroll in the course. There is also a course description at the bottom of the card. When you click on Go to course, you will be taken to the enrollment page where you will sign up.
Sign Up for Your Course
For annual required training courses, like HIPAA Privacy, or other self-paced learning courses, you can begin at any time, and once you have completed it credit will be registered on your Transcript and Record of Learning.
For other courses, which have event dates and times, you will need to enroll and sign up for a specific event in order to be enrolled in that course.
To enroll then sign up for a course, check to see if Upcoming Booking open is displayed under Event status. If Upcoming Booking not open is showing, you will have to wait until the course is open for enrollment and signup.
Next to Event status you can see how many seats are available. You can confirm the date and time of the course under Session times. Room will list if the class is on Teams or face-to-face. Courses are rarely taught face-to-face since 2020. Typically, large learning events are face-to-face, but not always. The location will be displayed for you to know what type of venue you will be joining.
In our example, Enforcement Basics 2 has Upcoming Booking open. Click Go to Event on the right side of the list of courses, times, and rooms.
The Sign-up page opens. This page contains the name of the facilitator, how many seats are available, the dates sign up will be open, the booking status, and details of where the course will be held. Under this the Sessions might be listed. If there is more than one session over a few days, you would choose the particular session you wanted. However, most Child Support trainings are offered one at a time and there is not a list of sessions to choose from.
On the right side of the screen there are a couple of things to notice. This is the Sign-up box. The note “Receive confirmation by*” might have Email with iCalendar appointment already filled in. This is convenient because the LMS will email you a confirmation that you are signed up in the course. If the link to the Teams training is available, when you get something like a meeting invite from the LMS and you select Yes in that invite, the link to the Teams training is automatically added to the event in the Teams calendar. Some trainers want to send the Teams link the day of the training. Click Sign-up.
The confirmation screen opens with a message saying the name of the course and that your sign-up request was accepted and you will receive a booking confirmation email shortly.” On this page you can see the same information that was displayed on the enrollment options page, but all the upcoming trainings are listed now. You can see the course you signed up for has booking open under Event status, and the upcoming ones have “Upcoming Booking not open.” The dates of the upcoming sessions are listed, the sign-up period, the room venue, session status, and actions (i.e., Go to event).
You can now exit by logging out or going back to Search to find another training you want to enroll and sign up for.
Course Credit Hours
Courses have credit hours. When you search for a course and select it from the search results, in the Course Search Results for each course the number of credit hours is displayed in the Course Name card.
Credit hours for these completed courses should appear on your transcript.
Course Completion
There are three things that must be done before these courses can be considered completed:
- Sign-up
Reserve a spot in a course event; a specific date and time - Attend
Participate in the course - Mandatory Feedback
Answer questions about your experience of the course
In most cases, once you complete the Mandatory Feedback you can download the Certificate of Completion that goes with the course or training, if you want to keep that for your records. The Certificate of Completion is not available until the Mandatory Feedback has been completed.
Training sessions can vary in their structure and expectations. Your facilitator will provide and explain any unique procedures.
Transcript | Recent Learning | Record of Learning
To check on your completed training sessions, there are three paths to follow.
Transcript is a tab along the top ribbon where completed training can be searched for
Recent Learning is the middle column on the LMS dashboard, where active, hyperlinked courses are listed with progress bars.
The My Learning block on the left column has the ‘Record of Learning’ link, where both search options are available. Each option has search filters in the event there is a large history of training.
