How to Determine the Correct CP when a Child is in DHS Custody

A case should be built against both parents when a child is in Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) custody. When building a child support case with one parent as the noncustodial parent (NCP), it must be determined who will be added as the custodial parent (CP).

  • If the child has lived with or was removed from the biological parent (BP), the BP should be added as the CP. If the child has never lived with the BP or if the BP is “Unknown,” the CP should be added as “CSS Other.” The CP address should be added as the Child Support Services (CSS) Center for Finance and Budget address, which is P.O. Box 248822, Oklahoma City, OK 73124. This is intended to keep payments from issuing out to CPs who should not be owed money.
  • If the case has a CP on it, update the CHU screen to show OKDHS custody by adding a “D” in the DHS CUST field.

  • This will populate the CSML screen to show DHS in the CP column.
